UFC fighter got sick with coronavirus

Former Bellator Welterweight champion, Lyman Good, became the first current UFC fighter to announce a positive test for COVID-19.

The 34-year-old Goode lives in new Jersey and trains in new York, being at the epicenter of the coronavirus epidemic in the United States.

A few weeks ago, the Welterweight announced that he was withdrawing from the fight against BelAL Muhammad at UFC 249 due to an injury, but today in an interview with ESPN admitted that he refused to participate in the event because of a positive test for coronavirus.

“Although I said it was because of an injury, I actually tested positive for COVID-19,” good said. “As soon as I found out about the result, I informed my team, as well as the people I contacted, and self-isolated myself. If someone else got sick because of me, I would feel responsible”

“I feel much better now and I want to get back to the octagon as soon as possible. As I said, I’m a fighter to the core. I was ill, but now I’m looking forward to getting back into businessĀ»

Earlier, UFC heavyweight alistar Overim reported that he had suffered from a coronavirus, but his illness was not confirmed by medical tests.

Amanda Nunes retires from UFC 250

The current UFC champion in two weight categories, Amanda Nunes, will not defend the Featherweight title on may 9.

In an interview with CBS Sports, the Brazilian said that she will not fight Felicia Spencer at UFC 250 because she cannot hold a full training camp.

“I don’t fight on may 9,” Nunes said. “I will fight, but I don’t know when yet. I don’t think this is the right time for me to fight. Let the coronavirus epidemic die down, and then I can have a full training campĀ»

“Perhaps we could meet in June, but let’s wait for what happens next. But I’m definitely not fighting on may 9”

Thus, in the card of the upcoming event, there are two title fights-in the main event, Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaitji will play for the temporary UFC lightweight title, and in the co-main event, Henry Cejudo will defend the title in the lightest weight against Dominic Cruz.
