Flyweight UFC will find the new king this weekend

Flyweight UFC will find the new king this weekend. Unfortunately, the champion of a UFC weight class is only leading one UFC Fight Night event.

Since its inception in 2011, Flyweight – UFC’s smallest male weight class has only had two champions, Demetrious Johnson and Henry Cejudo. However, the status of these two boxers completely different makes this weight become more and more volatile.

After the nine-year reign of Johnson’s “Mighty Mouse”, Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo was the one who made the surprise when he took over the throne in 2018. But after a title defense and promotion to win the Bantamweight belt at UFC 238, boxers Americans have vacated the position at Flyweight in December 2019. This is also the first time UFC has put the Flyweight weight championship in a state of “no owner”.
And this weekend, UFC will officially find the new Flyweight king at UFC Fight Night 169, with a belt battle between Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo.

Standing at No. 1 at Flyweight, Joseph Benavidez is a name that is no stranger to UFC fans. The American boxer had twice lost his title to Demetrious Johnson. However, he was the only one who recently defeated former King Henry Cejudo. Benavidez currently owns a series of 3 wins (2 TKO, 1 win points) and only lost 1 match in the last 2 years.

In contrast, Deiveson Figueiredo is a less noticeable name. However, the Brazilian boxer also has an equally good achievement when only losing points only once after 7 matches in UFC, winning the 3rd position in the weight class.

Unfortunately, the UFC Flyweight championship title match is only leading a small event – UFC Fight Night 169 takes place in Norfolk, Virginia on February 29. This shows that once again, Flyweight is lacking attractive names like the period of Cejudo, making the tournament no longer attaches too much importance to the movements of this weight class.

Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo will compete for the vacant Flyweight championship this weekend.
